Comments: Another winter delivery with generators, camping equipment, sleeping bags, torches, candles, and more Christmas presents.

Two of our FBWLU team members, two amazing humanitarians, two special persons Andrew Chapman and Geoff Szypuliak joined the special group of FBWLU Transporters by fundraising for the cost of the trip and with our Charity support, started the journey to Suceava (Northern Romania). There, they will be met by our Ukrainian Partners and hand over the consignment.

Importantly, this consignment consisted of 16 electrical generators, mobility aids, food, first aid, sleeping bags, camping and toiletries: the equivalent of over 140 boxes.

These generators were sourced in less than a week, following Bristol’s High Sheriff’s Dr Alex Raikes MBE ‘Generators for Ukraine Appeal’. The High Sheriff was unable to join us in person due to Covid but joined us via video link and addressed the team with a powerful message of thanks and encouragement.

Very movingly, we were joined on a surprise visit by a long standing friend of Romania and now of Ukraine too, HM Representative in the City and County of Bristol, the Lord Lieutenant Mrs Peaches Golding OBE. It goes without saying were deeply honoured and delighted to welcome the Lord Lieutenant to our warehouse.

We were even more delighted when, after a very moving and inspiring address, the Lord Lieutenant insisted on personally carrying boxes of aid and loading them into our van, shoulder to shoulder with the rest of the team.

Now, with only one more local delivery scheduled for this year, we would like to express our gratitude to all three First Citizens of the City and County of Bristol: HM Lord Lieutenant, HM High Sheriff and the Lord Mayor for honouring our FBWLU community and giving us their vote of confidence.

As always, our special thanks and heartfelt gratitude goes to all Donors, Volunteers and Transporters who brave a bitterly cold day and thought, donated and worked for the People of Ukraine.
